About Us

“Our Guides Make the Difference”

Customer service and professionalism mean everything at Mountain Whitewater

Welcome to Mountain WhitewaterWhile the river is a vital part of your river trip, your guide makes the experience even more outstanding. We have some of the most experienced whitewater guides on the Poudre.

Most of our guides are college graduates with degrees like Wildlife Biology, Natural Resource Management, Forest Ecology, and Recreation and Tourism. During the winter some work in the ski industry, some are teachers, some head to other parts of the world to guide on rivers there. Our staff is mature and has a true love for the sport of rafting which is displayed by the professionalism they give each and every day. These guys and gals love to raft and to work with each other. Their enthusiasm will rub off on you.

Each year we tap into the resources of the Colorado State University and hold classes with our guides to further educate them on birds, wildlife, plants, and the rich history of the region.

In addition to First Aid and CPR, all our guides are required to have current Swiftwater Rescue training. ‘Swiftwater’ is an intense three-day course that teaches whitewater rescue techniques. Guides also have incentives to further their medical and technical experience.

We are proud of our crew and are dedicated to making this the best possible experience for you and your family.

“Do not burn yourself out. Be as I am – a reluctant enthusiast…a part-time crusader, a half-hearted fanatic. Save the other half for yourselves and your lives for pleasure and adventure. It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it is still there. So get out there and hunt and fish and mess around with your friends, ramble out yonder and explore the forests, encounter the Grizz, climb the mountains, bag the peaks. Run the rapids, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air, sit quietly for a while, and contemplate the precious stillness, that lovely, mysterious, and awesome space. Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to the body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this much: I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those deskbound people with their hearts in a safe deposit box and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. I promise you this: You will outlive the bastards.”

– Edward Abbey (1927-1989) author of The Monkey Wrench Gang and Desert Solitaire, at a 1987 Earth First! rally at the Grand Canyon.
